Meir Fenigstein is the definition of a renaissance man. For the past 50 years Meir has been a pioneer in the Israeli entertainment industry - he is a musician, actor and producer, but most importantly, he is the founder and executive director for the Israel Film Festival, in Los Angeles. Meir’s first step in his musical career was his recruitment to the “Nahal Troop”, the army entertainment unit where he served as a drummer. Since inception in 1973, Meir has been the drummer for Israel’s legendary rock’n’roll band, Kaveret, also known as Poogy, which represented Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. The band’s has proven its relevance even years after its breakup when it’s reunion on 2013 brough as many as 100,000 audience members to Park Hayarkon for concerts. After the band’s breakup in 1976, Meir acted in the films “The Troupe” by Avi Nesher and “Aunt Clara” by Avraham Hefner, and has been a part of the Jerusalem Khan Theater’s permanent ensemble acting in the award-winning play “Cherly KaCherly”. In 1982 Meir moved to the USA and started The Israel Film Festival, and the rest is history! Over the past four decades Meir has worked tirelessly to promote the Israeli film and television industry in America, and has created an everlasting bond between Hollywood and Israel.
